In an age of fleeting trends and constant demand for newness, a beauty brand that can stand the test of time and keep women feeling and looking beautiful for over 80 years is something to be revered. French-born beauty house Lancôme recently celebrated an incredible 80th anniversary and allowed me to share in some of the magic at their special birthday events.
A history of happiness
The story of Lancôme began in 1935 with Armand Petitjean and a vision to create beauty that was French, free-spirited and happy. A beauty that lightens, strengthens and embraces the ideal of being oneself.
‘Because – for Lancôme – beauty goes hand in hand with happiness.’ – Françoise Lehmann, Lancôme’s General Manager
These ideals resonate most noticeably in the kind of women Lancôme chooses as ambassadresses – the faces you and I see fronting their campaigns and reflecting the kind of beauty, and happiness, the brand embodies. From Isabella Rossellini, the original epitome of Lancôme femininity, Kate Winslet and Julia Roberts to young Hollywood icons like Lupita Nyong’o and Lily Collins – these women lend their faces, beauty and vision of La Vie Est Belle (Life is Beautiful) to this iconic beauty house.
‘Lancôme celebrates beauty of all backgrounds. Its ambassadors are all individual women whose beauty goes way beyond skin-deep.’ – Lupita Nyong’o
An affair to remember
Celebrities and beauty media from around the country descended upon the beautiful Four Seasons Westcliff Hotel to celebrate this momentous occasion. Take a look at some of my pictures from the event to see what went down.
Lancôme’s International Retail and Education Make-up Director, German Moyano was on hand to share his expertise about make-up mastery and show off some of the Effortless French Chic looks he has created for South African women. Find out how to create your own Effortless French Chic look by following his advice from the make-up master class we took part in.
