Beauty Brains | Becoming You

Beauty Brains | Becoming You

1. Why Becoming you?

I started Becoming you two years ago to remind myself that I was more than just “someone’s mom” and I had interests I had been neglecting in the fog of new motherhood. I love writing and photography, and adore magazines and reading other blogs so it was a natural progression. The name symbolises the journey of becoming you (and me!), and “becoming” has a lovely dictionary definition (look it up!).

2. Best part of my job is…

Receiving goodies to review, being invited to lovely events, meeting other bloggers and getting paid to be on Facebook and Twitter most of the day.

3. Favourite splurge

New perfume; this doesn’t happen often but I do enjoy discovering new scents. That being said I’m also very loyal to my signature scent of Flower by Kenzo. If that is empty I WILL buy a new bottle!

Garnier BB Cream (R79).

Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector (R84,95).

4. Best budget buy

Lately I’d have to say the Garnier BB Cream I bought at Clicks for R84,95. I’ve been using it every day instead of foundation and it has a lovely texture and tone for my skin type.

5. The beauty tip I swear by…

Don’t go to bed with your make-up on! I have dragged myself out of bed many times to make sure I NEVER ignore this beauty tip myself. Not always easy after a late night but very essential. Also sunscreen, but I’m not as religious about this as I should be…

Jennifer Garner and Jessica Alba.

6. My celeb beauty inspiration is…

I love Jessica Alba and Jennifer Garner. They’re both natural beauties who look amazing whether they’re make-up free on the school run or glammed up on the red carpet.

7. Must-have of the moment

I’ve just been reviewing the Nanoblur correction cream (available at Clicks for R399) and it really is a wonder. You can perfect and mattify your skin, as well as minimise pores, lines and pigmentation in about 10 seconds. No wonder it’s the best selling beauty product at Boots UK.

8. Pet hate

Adult acne and hormonal breakouts – whyyyyyy? I’m in my thirties! Surely this is behind me???

9. I’m happiest when…

My kids are happy and I’m eating Lindt chocolate.

10. In my make-up bag right now

We asked Kathryn for a sneaky peek inside her make-up bag. Take a look at her must-haves beauty bag essentials.

We love Kathryn's favourite make-up bag buys.

♥ Garnier BB Cream (R84,95) ♥ Mascara (usually Maybelline or Rimmel) – I don’t believe in forking out for something that only lasts 3 months

♥ A couple of lipsticks in various shades of pink or brown – usually Clinique or Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Ultra Lipstick (R170)

MAC Plushglass in Ample Pink (R175) – I love this stuff as it has a lip-plumping ingredient

MAC Eyeshadow in Woodwinked (R175) ♥ Clinique Kohl Shaper for Eyes in Black Coffee (R200)

♥ Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant (R165) – It’s a make-up bag must-have!

♥ Essie Nail Polish in Brooch the Subject (R89) ♥ Clinique Blush in Bashful Blush (R265)

  1. Trying my best not to go to bed without washing my face before bed. Its hard with the twins but have been using Simple Facial Wipes and they are fabulous.

    • Twins must be tough Monique, but taking care of yourself (and your skin) is important too. Wipes are great things to use occasionally when you’re tired, but they’re not a substitute for a proper cleansing routine so do your best to try fit that in as often as you can xx
