If you’re not already familiar with Dermalogica’s famous Face Mapping, listen up – this unique process is the iconic brand’s signature method of skin analysis. Over the next few months, they’re embarking on a massive campaign to share the importance of Face Mapping with 5000 new people and help them to embark on their own journeys to great skin. Better make sure you’re one of them!
During April and May, Dermalogica will be hosting various in-store events, which will take place at their three concept stores (Wembley and Waterfront in Cape Town and Rosebank in Johannesburg) as well as selected Sorbet salons across the country. If you’ve been for a treatment at one of their concept stores or salons recently, you may see an email in your inbox inviting you to attend one of these exciting events. And if you’re new to the Dermalogica family and interested in getting to know this great brand, drop them an email or give your closest concept store a call to book a seat. You can also book a personalised Face Mapping session at any time and it’s complimentary with no obligation to purchase, which is wonderful when you’re just looking to evaluate your skincare needs and see if the products are right for you.
Plus you’ll also receive some free samples of Dermalogica products suited to your skin type and concerns to try at home. And believe me, after you’ve tried them you’ll be back for more in no time! Don’t forget to share your Face Mapping experiences on social media using #facemapnationsa.
‘Many consumers buy products for very impulsive reasons, like the fragrance, funky name or whimsical packaging. That’s fine if you’re buying a lipstick but skin care must be tailored to you personally in order to be effective.’ – Jane Wurwand, Dermalogica founder.
What to expect
Guided by a Dermalogica skincare therapist, your skin is broken up into 14 zones and analysed according to things such as texture, signs of ageing, dehydration or oiliness, blemishes and breakouts, pigmentation, redness and more.
Every part of the skin is analysed – from the forehead right down to the neck and décolletage, as well as the ears (areas often neglected when it comes to sun protection and hydration). This allows your therapist to get a comprehensive picture of your skin and what it’s doing, not to mention what you’re doing right or wrong. After every section on the paper is marked accordingly, your therapist will go through each with you and discuss problem areas and concerns, before recommending products to target each concern. You’ll leave with your own Face Map and treatment programme which details what you should be using, when and how often. Stick it up in your bathroom cabinet to remind you of your new routine until you get used to it.
