Rich, decadent, sophisticated and glamorous – the new Bobbi Brown Scotch on the Rocks Collection will get your heart racing this season.
The limited edition Scotch on the Rocks Collection was inspired by legendary actress Lauren Bacall and has a decidedly old Hollywood feel. Featuring rich reds, scotch-like browns, metallic finishes and mock-croc embossing, it’s hard not to fall in love with it.
Get the Look
I hit the Bobbi Brown boutique at Canal Walk, Cape Town (021 555 0799) and met up with make-up artist Micayla to get my Scotch on the Rocks look of the season. First she prepped my skin with Hydrating Face Cream and Hydrating Eye Cream before correcting and concealing under eye shadows using Corrector in Light Bisque and Creamy Concealer in Beige.
Tip This is one of the most important steps in make-up application because Bobbi believes you can’t just apply concealer over shadows, you need to correct the colour first to properly even out the skin tone and then conceal them.
Micayla then used Skin Foundation Stick in Beige, ideal to provide medium to full coverage that lasts during the busy festive season. The formula also helps to control oil and prevent shine so it’s great for those with oilier skin types. A touch of creamy Pot Rouge in Rose later (which I adore on lips too for a quick pop of colour) and she was ready to play with the new collection.
Start with a day look
★ Use the beautiful 9-shaded Warm Glow Eye Palette (R1365) and apply the Flesh shade all over your eyelids.
★ To add a little sparkle, use a touch of a soft shimmering shade like Rose Metallic or Gold Sparkle.
★ Give your lips a subtle colour and soft shine with a slick of Glitter Lip Gloss in Gold (R275).
Micayla’s tip Apply the Long-Wear Eye Base all over lids before using any liner or shadow for a look that lasts. And don’t forget to define your brows using a Brow Pencil or a product like the Light Brow Kit. Well-shaped brows make all the difference.
Glam it up for evenings
★ Apply the beautiful deep bronze Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Scotch (R300) along the upper lash line. Smudge it gently, and then apply a second layer to redefine the line.
★ Add depth by applying the Velvet Bronze shade under the lower lash line, and Rich Caviar in the crease. Treat lashes to Smokey Eye Mascara – this is one of the best mascaras I’ve ever used, I love it.
★ Give your skin a veil of rich radiance by sweeping the Highlight Powder in Bronze Glow (R690) along your cheekbones, forehead and chin.
★ To finish off your glamorous look, use the decadent Lip Colour in Bordeaux (R300) for a power pout.
Micayla’s tip When doing this look at home, start with your eye make-up – especially if you’re using the shimmering or glitter shades. In that way you can easily clean up any product that falls onto your face before applying foundation.
No make-up look is complete without the perfect manicure to match, especially one this bold and glamorous. I’ve recently started a love affair with wine-red hues for nails and this beautiful Nail Polish in Bordeaux (R190) is simply sublime. It’s richly red with a glossy finish and looks divine on both fingers and toes.
I found it a bit tricky to apply, especially being such a deep shade, and it look a lot of patience. It’s definitely not the sort of colour you want to be applying in a hurry when you only have ten minutes to spare and it needs at least two coats for a solid colour, preferably three. But it’s so worth it!
