As someone obsessed with fragrance, I’m always on the lookout for new scents and ways to fragrance my skin. And one of the most popular questions I get from readers and my friends is ‘how can I make my perfume last longer or intensify my fragrance?’. While there are a couple of tips I often shell out to help get the most out of your perfume, these fabulous five new and not-so-new fragrances offer the very latest in fragrance boosting prowess. Prepare to indulge…
How to boost your perfume power? Here are my top tips:
♥ Apply fragrance after using an unscented or complementary body cream because perfume oils react better to well moisturised skin.
♥ Aside from spraying it onto common pulse points (wrists and neck) add a touch behind the knees when wearing skirts and dresses.
♥ Leaving your hair loose? Spritz some on the back of your neck and hair to help release the scent with every swish of your hair.
♥ Mist yourself after getting dressed by lightly spritzing some in front of you and stepping into it.
Azzaro Pour Elle Extrême EDP 75ml (R820, on counter 25 April)
This new scent arrived at my door a few weeks ago and I knew I loved it the second I opened the courier box. Within seconds, the most incredible smell ensnared my senses as I prised open the lid to reveal a box of wood chips that had been sprayed with the fragrance.
It’s been described as a more carnal interpretation of the original Pour Elle EDT, and what you get is nothing short of seductively intoxicating. Three new notes of saffron, peach and a rose duo take the original floral woody amber scent into a more spicy, fruity concoction, playing beautifully with shared notes of cardamom, lily and cashmere wood. The rich, intense Oud wood base lingers on the skin beautifully creating a scent that’s warm, sensual and ideally comforting for the coming cooler weather.
Indulge in oils
It’s no secret that Armani’s Si has become one of my most revered fragrances and my heart skips a beat every time a new form of this potion is launched. Last year I was introduced to this extraordinary elixir which takes the Si game to a whole new level.
It was inspired by the perfumed oils of ancient Eqypt (the kind favoured by Queen Cleopatra herself) and embodies everything I love about the iconic Si scent in luxurious, concentrated form. Apply a few drops onto your skin on its own, or boost your perfume power by layering a spritz or two of your favourite Si scent on top to enjoy heightened notes of juicy cassis, may rose and creamy vanilla.
Similar to the above concept of fragrance layering, Givenchy’s innovative scent offering comes in the form of this dark and decadent woody floriental duo, packaged in two glorious talisman-shaped flacons.
The scent alone is a masterpiece of seduction with notes of sambac jasmine, sensual musk and a leather accord, but for days (or nights) when you really want to up the ante, add a drop of the Son Illicite Accord to your pulse points to trigger a more addictive, lasting trail.
I’m big on misting fragrance on my hair; I find this one of the easiest ways to amplify my scent and make it last longer. I also love the way it gives me hints of fragrance throughout the day when I flick my hair, so the creation of this dedicated hair mist is my happiest moment.
The mist is designed specifically to be used on hair without drying it out or causing damage from the sun. It boasts the same fresh and zesty floral hit from the EDT of an invigorating grapefruit-blood orange accord, paired with jasmine and a cedar-iris accord. Mist it lightly onto your hair or spritz some onto a brush and comb it through to disperse the scent while you groom.
Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Touche de Parfum (R1240, limited edition)
The latest addition to the Chanel family is this glorious purse-friendly creation. Created for women like me who just cant resist refreshing their fragrance during the day, it presents the wearer with the ultimate olfactory accessory – a fragrance wand. It’s the kind of thing for which brides would go to war.
Packaged in the form of an elegant lipgloss (almost identical in white to Chanel’s Rouge Allure Gloss) it’s incredibly light and compact, making it ideal to keep in your make-up purse, bridal bag or to pack when travelling. Wave your magic wand and delicately adorn your wrists, décolleté and behind your ears to enjoy the classic Coco Mademoiselle scent of orange, rose, jasmine, patchouli and vetiver.
