Holiday Skin

So, you spend all year taking good care of your skin, but you think it’s okay to relax a little on holiday, right? Wrong! Between air travel, hot climates, frequent sun exposure and a little too much of everything, your skin needs all the love it can get.

My holiday cosmetic case – filled to the brim but I swear I needed everything.

Never underestimate the power of good luggage! I picked up this not-so-little gem over a year ago from Cellini and it’s one of the best investments I’ve ever made. It stores so much product – small or big – in its many compartments and pouches. And although it does take up a large chunk of my suitcase space, it means I can store ALL my beauty products safely in one place, instead of scattered around in packets within shoes and wrapped up in clothes where there’s always a risk that they’ll leak and spoil a favourite dress.

Hats are a must-have holiday item to protect your skin and hair from sun damage, keep you cool in the hot weather and hide bad hair days!

Although I had my fair share of make-up, hair and body products with me too, the majority of the luggage space was taken up by skincare, which I always feel is the most important, and possible the best investment you can ever make for yourself.

Take a look at a few of my favourites for happy holiday skin below and remember – you can never take enough spritzers, SPF day creams and quick cleansers like facial wipes!

Skin Savvy

Vichy Purete Thermale 3-in-1 Calming Cleansing Micellar Solution (R195) There’s honestly nothing better to remove make-up than a good cleansing water, especially if you wear contact lenses, and Vichy makes a fabulous one.

Jane Iredale Balance Antioxidant Hydration Spray (R231 review) should be handed out to travellers before every single flight – it’s a dream to refresh and rehydrate dry skin that’s suffering from that dreaded cabin-air feeling. Ugh.

YSL Youth Liberator Serum (R850) and SPF15 Fluid (R925 see more here) I love the gorgeous scent of this range of products and the day fluid is so light-weight, making it perfect for hot climates and summer weather.

Even with great sun protection, too much sun and heat can cause post inflammation hyper-pigmentation. Check out that blotchy forehead!

Clarins Vital Light Serum (R850) is still helping to reduce that nasty pigmentation I picked up and I am sure the next few weeks will show even more results.

Nivea Visage Daily Essentials Regenerating Night Cream (R69,99) is a treat for drier skins as it’s really nourishing and soaks lovingly into your skin all night long.

Johnson’s Daily Essentials Nourishing Facial Wipes (R39,95) are total lifesavers for quickly removing make-up, dirt and even just freshening up your skin and body while out and about. And if you’re wondering about how often you can use facial wipes to cleanse your skin, read this for a little clarity.
