There were so many gorgeous beauty launches in the month of love, inspired by all things pretty, pink and romantic. And it seems the trend is going to continue into March with even more pretty pink launches, so check out my Lust List for February to see what I’ve been loving and what’s coming your way this month.
Skin & Make-up
1 Chanel Le Lift Crème Riche (R1500) launched in January and it took only one night to make it a skincare favourite of mine. It’s seriously smart skincare which features an ingredient that took 12 years of research, which senses the natural form of you skin and helps to slow down the actions that result in the first signs of ageing. Because this particular one is so rich, I’ve been using it twice a week as a night mask before bed but, come winter, I know I’ll be piling it on daily. There’s also a regular Crème and a lighter Crème Fine for use in summer and on oilier skin types.
2 Gosh Kiss Me! Moisturising Lip Balm in First Kiss (R99) is the latest in the chubby balm craze and this baby pink pastel is just one of six shades in the range. The texture of the balm is so incredibly soft and hydrating, and those with sensitive noses will be happy to know it’s completely perfume-free. Try it in Hot Kiss for a burst of feisty red.
3 Maybelline Clear Smooth All In One Shine Free Cake Powder SPF25 in Light (R79,95). Something my skin doesn’t suffer from is oiliness but in summer I do notice shiny patches that I wish would just disappear. This new powder helps to control shine and mattify your skin, even out tone and conceal blemishes (to a point) and it offers the added protection of SPF25. There are nine shades in the range, with six of them suiting medium to dark skin tones.
4 Mavala Nail Color in Quartz Rock (R64). Part of the Jewel Collection which launched in January, I just love this glittery nail colour. The rosy-pink shade complements any skin tone and because it’s so sheer it takes seconds to apply and dry, and you don’t have to worry about shaky hands leaving you with a messy paint job. Add a top coat for a smoother finish.
5 L’Oréal Paris Mega Volume Miss Manga Mascara in Black (R139,95). This new mascara, launching in March, was inspired by the cult Japanese Manga comics and if you’re looking to create voluminous, flashy lashes you’ll want to try this one. What makes it different? It has a conical shape with a very precise tip to allow you to get right into those fine corner lashes, as well as a flexible base for ultimate moveability. It comes in Black as well as three pop shades of Tropical Turquoise, Electric Blue and Pop Violet to let you create those doll-like Kawaii looks.
6 Avon Foundation Brush (R89,95). This beauty tool proves you don’t have to spend big bucks to get your hands on great make-up brushes. There are several brushes in the collection and they just look so chic and professional. The hairs are also super smooth and this sleek brush works just brilliantly to apply your foundation smoothly and evenly. The Kabuki Brush is also gorgeous for applying blusher and bronzer.
Body, Hair & Fragrance
7 Lux Soft Touch Softening Body Wash (R18,99 for 200ml) graces the shelves this month along with seven other scent variations. The new body washes are broken up into four categories: Softening Body Wash, Fragranced Body Wash, Refreshing Body Wash and Exfoliating Body Wash. This one is a Softening Body Wash because it contains Silk Essence but it also has a lovely scent thanks to a Pink Floral Infusion. I like to add a cap of it to my bath water, too.
8 Garnier Mineral Invisible Black White Colours 48HR Anti-Perspirant (R21,95). Only time will tell if using this new deodorant saves my precious clothes from those terrible yellowing stains, but until then there are several things I love about this deo: it’s alcohol-free, never turns to powder when you spray it (ahem certain other brands!), has a smell that doesn’t assault your senses and a clever lock switch to keep it from going off at random in your bag.
9 Kérastase Elixir Ultime Thé Impérial Protecting and Beautifying Oil for colour-treated hair (R470). This nourishing oil is one of four in the range which uses a combination of camellia, argan, maize and pracaxi oils, as well as its signature Imperial Tea extract, to care for and protect your hair. It’s the perfect combination of oils and silicones, and leaves your hair feeling soft and smooth. Apply it to dry hair to nourish your hair and tame frizz, or damp hair before blow-drying or letting your hair dry naturally. I love these oils so much I bought seven last week online!
10 Tommy Hilfiger Tommy Girl Summer EDT (R600 for 100ml) has just launched and is a beautifully fresh and fruity scent. The tops notes are immediately zesty with a hint of juicy red fruits, but no sooner have you appreciated that light freshness than the luscious fruity heart notes of berry, apricot and pineapple hit you. The dry down is completely unique with a touch of warm musk and sparkling cream soda – the kind you loved to enjoy as a child on hot summer days.
