La’s Lust List | July ’14

July is behind us, can you believe it? The weeks seem to fly by even faster the older I get and it has been a very busy year so far. So busy that I haven’t been able to put up a monthly Lust List post for a while to share with you all the great beauty products that have been launching (and taking up so much of my time). So with winter in mind, here are 12 things – from skin and body care to hair care and make-up – that have been getting me through the cooler season in style. Keep an eye on the site over the next two weeks for detailed reviews of some of these winter lust-haves.

July Lust List

Skincare

1 Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant Nighttime Miracle Moisturizer (R265). Anyone who hasn’t been living under a rock for the last few decades should be familiar with the iconic Eight Hour Cream and this new addition to the range is a night time bestie. It’s everything we all love about the original Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant, but in a much lighter formula (because nobody wants to stick to their pillow while they sleep) and with a beautiful put-me-to-bed lavender scent. ZZzzzz…

2 Chanel Hydra Beauty Essence Mist (R870 read our review). When it comes to a great face mist, the beauty benefits are endless and this pampering treat takes the cake. It boasts a super fine mist, heavenly fresh-floral scent and a formula that leaves skin feeling soothed, hydrated, refreshed and revitalised. Bliss!

3 Kiehl’s Centella Recovery Skin-Salve (R495 read our review). When winter approaches, I keep this balmy beauty close by for instant relief from dryness and dehydration, itching and those unexpected skin flare-ups. It acts in minutes – exactly what you need to soothe irritated skin.

4 Dermalogica UltraCalming Cleanser (R480 read our review). If you’ve ever had problems with very dry skin or reactions, you’ll understand how the thought of cleansing your skin can bring about fear and apprehension. This gentle giant, with it’s soap-free formula and UltraCalming Complex, makes cleansing dry, iffy and irritated skin a breeze and ensures your face feels fresh and clean, but never tight or dry.

5 !QMSMedicosmetics Hydro Foam Mask (R700 read our review). Light, frothy and full of all good things like skin-plumping, hydrating hyaluronic acid, nourishing jojoba oil and silk proteins, this mask makes getting great skin at home a fun 15-minute affair. My favourite for pamper parties!

6 Eucerin AtoControl Bath & Shower Oil (R139,99 read our review). Dry, itching skin… meet your match. This soothing bath and shower oil is relief in a bottle and takes the fear, and pain, out of cleansing dry bodies in winter.

7 Optiphi Body Curve Body Lotion (R360). It’s easy to neglect our bodies in winter. If you do one thing for yours, invest in a good all-round lotion like this that addresses hydration levels, texture and elasticity and protects the skin’s lipid barrier. It even contains cinnamon leaf oil (providing the natural scent) which suppresses a nasty little process called glycation that causes ageing.

8 Pureology Hydrate Hydra Whip Mask (R310). If you have time to apply a face mask then you have time to apply a hair mask, and doing these two at the same time mean you can double up on beauty benefits at the expense of only a few minutes more. This hydrating hero has long been my go-to to replenish my hair’s moisture levels when it starts to feel a bit dry. The shampoo is also fantastic (read our review) and lasts forever!

Make-up

GOSH Smokey Eyes Palette in Plum.

9 GOSH Smokey Eyes Palette in Plum (R159). This pretty palette is eyeshadow for stupid people, and I absolutely classify myself as one of them when it comes to applying the stuff. The paint-by-numbers guide shows you exactly where to apply it for that smokey eye look we all crave (the one that starts out with good intentions and leaves you looking like you’ve been punched). None of that here!

10 L’Oréal Paris Volume Million Lashes So Couture Mascara (R179,95 read our review). This new mascara launched a few weeks ago and if the results I’ve seen are anything to go by I am sure it will fly off the shelves. Length, volume and a glossy black finish, together with a good price point, make it worth the spend.

11 Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream Eyes SPF15 in Fair (R295). I’m a sucker for multitasking beauty buys and this eye treat packs a punch when it comes to benefits. It conceals dark circles, protects from the sun, hydrates, smoothes and preps your skin for foundation around the eye area. You can even use it along the brow bones to create the illusion of a little lift. Sold yet? You should be.

12 Shiseido Lacquer Gloss in BE102 Debut (R310 read our review). I’m convinced that lip lacquers are the way forward when it comes adorning lips with a pretty shade. You get the colour payoff of a lipstick, the feeling of a creamy balm and the super shiny finish of a lipgloss (but without the stickiness) and all in one product. What more could you want?
