Life Day Spa @ V&A Waterfront

Life Day Spa @ V&A Waterfront

New Year, new you, new spa! As if you needed an excuse to visit a spa and indulge in a bit of pampering, now Life Day Spa has opened yet another gorgeous piece of paradise right in the heart of Cape Town at the V&A Waterfront. And there are some great special offers running to entice you even further.

When I attended the official launch of the new Life Day Spa V&A Waterfront last year, it was at a time when I was pretty finished after a very long year and big changes in my life. A spa day was just what I needed and the new spot didn’t fail to impress from start to finish.

The décor is phenomenal – so stylish and contemporary with really interesting focal points and use of so many different materials as well – from wood and steel, to beautiful fabrics and marble. Even the use of lighting in the form of laser-like beams cutting across walls and ceilings is something of its own art form. Stepping into this space immediately makes you feel at ease and takes you away from whatever is worrying you in the outside world. It really is something to see!

Life Day Spa Reception

The spa offers nine treatment rooms, two couples suites, a 10-station nail bar (including both mani and pedi stations) and a beautiful and rather opulent relaxation lounge – complete with a delicious snack and refreshments bar. Cucumber and mint water anyone?

There are also several facilities which guests can enjoy when booking a treatment including a rain shower, steam room and heated tranquility pool with a beautiful jet stream which feels like heaven against your back. And for those looking to take it up a notch, a rasul chamber (R350 for 30 mins) and floatation pool (R310 for 30 mins) are on offer.

After a tour of the spa and some tantalising treats in the form of sushi and a decadent cheese board, I was whisked away to experience a relaxing BNS massage in one of the nine single treatment rooms. Some of the best massages I’ve ever had (and I’ve had a lot) have been at various Life Day Spas across the country and I knew I was in the best hands. I was treated to a thoroughly relaxing massage under calming blue light on the plushest bed you’ll ever come across (one of the spa group’s signatures). Above all, I appreciate that all their therapists take such time to find out what’s bothering you about your body or muscles, and can tailor any massage to suit your needs.

After prising myself away from the warm comforts of the spa bed, I made my way to the pedicure area which is arguably my favourite spot. Being a bit of a people watcher, I love nothing more than to sit back and relax (preferably in one of these completely oversized chairs) and stare outside into the great big world watching the passing parade, which is exactly what I did. The Waterfront is such a bustling place too so there is always something to see and something going on.

The chairs themselves, or shall we call them regal sofa areas from which to gaze upon the world, are a work of art. Enough to fit two people, they are designed just for one, giving the occupant the feeling of space and privacy so often lacking in these types of pedicure areas. There is also a built-in foot basin and a lovely soft cushion on which to rest your feet, making the experience even more pleasurable.

I enjoyed a delightful hour-long pedicure, complete with exfoliation and hot stone foot massage, before my toes where adorned with a fabulous shade of fire engine red. Again, I’ve only ever had the best pedicures from Life Day Spa and frequently gift family members with vouchers for the Luxury Hot Stone Pedicure in particular. It really offers the works and is well worth the spend.

The Result I left feeling totally pampered and relaxed, and ready to take on the last few weeks of 2016. The spa itself is absolutely beautiful, well-positioned for both tourists and locals, and the ideal stop off if you’re anywhere near the city and in need of a bit of an escape. I’ve already bought vouchers for my friend’s birthday treat and I’ll definitely be booking myself back in to try out that floatation pool or maybe the rasul chamber sometime soon (probably with another of their fabulous massages!).
