When the warmer weather starts to soak in I usually tend to go for bold, bright nail colours to match my happiness for the coming seasons. For some reason this year, I’ve been leaning towards far softer hues and the new Mavala Delicate Collection is speaking to me in a big way.
The Mavala Delicate Collection includes six new shades (available for R86 each) of petal-like prettiness – from a soft cream and an elegant ivory, to a breezy lilac and a gentle pink. There are four cream shades and two pearls.

It goes without saying that all six shades are the perfect complement for Spring (which seems to have been extended, at least in Cape Town, by the light rains we have been having). They are also ideal for weddings, whether saying ‘I do’ or watching your bestie walk down the aisle. Take a closer look:
♥ Cream Orchid Mavala calls this an elegant ivory beige but to me it’s really more of a pale peach. While I like certain peachy shades, I usually lean towards those with a more coral finish as this kind doesn’t really do anything for my skin tone. You’ll need three coats to get streak-free coverage.
♥ White Orchid When I’m in the mood for a little bit of barely-there nail colour, this subtle pure white is a favourite. Because it’s so pale and pearly, it’s easy as pie to paint in a hurry and not have to worry about making making mistakes or painting outside the lines. Plus, if your nails are looking yellow due to wearing too many deep reds (and no base coat) this will make them appear whiter and healthier. Just remember it won’t actually solve the problem.
♥ Lilac Orchid By far the prettiest of the bunch, this evanescent mauve is the epitome of delicate delight. Two thicker coats will do, but three painted thinly give it a beautiful solid finish.
♥ Pink Orchid This gentle pink is a little too baby pink for me, especially with its pearl finish, but if you’re a lover of all things pink it’s sure to appeal to you.
♥ Mango Orchid If I had anything resembling a tan right now, I have no doubt this delicate tangerine would do all sorts of wonderful things on me. Sadly after winter, a tan is not something I possess but I think I’ll be trying this one my toes in summer.
♥ Iris Orchid Probably the most solid, ‘intense’ hue of the bunch, this chic violet is a really gorgeous colour. It looks a little more purple in the photograph below than it really is – think more of a dusty, grey violet. One thicker coat will do if you’re in a hurry.
My favourite of the lot? It has to be Lilac Orchid. I just adore this colour. It’s pale enough to look feminine and delicate, but with enough pigment to still feel trendy and eye-catching.
