The new Morgan Taylor Street Beat Summer Nail Collection has me wanting to don my lumo active wear, braid my hair and bust a move to show off these edgy new shades.
The mood is electric, the colours are unashamedly attention-seeking, and the attitude is seriously street.
The new collection includes six brazen new shades (available for R138 each) to fulfil all your deepest hip-hop, street-style desires. If you ever wanted to sneak out the house as a teenager and graffiti your neighbour’s wall (or did), you’ll love it:
♥ Cou-tour the Streets ♥ Tag, You’re It! ♥ Give Me a Break-dance
♥ Hip Hot Coral ♥ Street Cred-ible ♥ B-girl Style
FYI To see what they’d look like on your hands, check out the Morgan Taylor Virtual Salon. It lets you pick your skin tone, nail shape and length before testing the colours for yourself (without lifting a finger).
I was sent three of the six shades to play with and it wasn’t long before I’d found my favourite.
♥ Give Me a Break-dance This pearlescent, edgy emerald is guaranteed to bring out the green-eyed monster in all your polish-loving besties. It looks amazing on very short nails.
♥ B-girl Style Bubblegum-popping gals will love this decidedly poppie-pink cream hue. It looks really gorgeous on toes too.
♥ Hip Hot Coral This one’s a real colour-chameleon, changing it’s shade every which way you turn it thanks to pink and orange undertones, a lumo finish and a slight pearly touch.
It’s by far my favourite from the collection and reminds me of a pinker, more faceted version of Manga-round with Me from the Hello Pretty! Collection last year, which I was totally obsessed with for the whole of summer.
At first glance it appears to be a typical lumo polish, but the combination of bright coral and slightly sparkling shimmer pigments give it a a beautiful new dimension when the light hits it.
I used three coats to achieve the above finish, with a coat of Morgan Taylor React No-Light Extended Wear Base Coat (R199) beforehand (on one hand only to test the results) and the Top Coat (R199) on both to finish. The hand without the base coat (my left hand) chipped after four days, which is still pretty impressive and the polish on my right hand (which had both the base and top coat on) lasted the whole week and stayed looked glossy and beautiful. I was well impressed.
If you’ve got the patience and the skillz, try your hand at one of these daring nail designs featuring a combination of ombre and graphic patterns.
For a step-by-step guide, take a look at this Tag Between the Lines nail tutorial using the hot pink shade Tag, You’re It! and the other bright shades from the collection. It’s a great nail tutorial for beginners as it focuses on one statement nail so there’s not as much pressure to get all 10 looking perfect.
